Dr. Knut Petersen

Managing Director

Dr. Knut Petersen studied Business Administration at the Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, with a focus on organisation and business management and accounting/ finance. With a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation he went on to gain his doctor’s degree in “Behavioural Accounting / Process Analysis”. At the same time he worked as an assistant to the Chair of Organisation, as a professor at the Kiel University of Applied Sciences and as a lecturer for various educational institutions.

In 1987, after his time in research and at university, Knut Petersen joined a major German firm of management consultants. In 1991 he founded the management consulting firm BSL Managementberatung. Here, as managing director, he succeeded with the aid of his colleagues and staff in addressing operational planning issues by means of innovative benchmarking approaches, vehicle and infrastructure workshop optimisation, overhead reduction and earnings management, thereby making BSL Management Consultants into one of the leading German strategy consultants in the local public transport field and in the railway sector. His most recent post was as chairman of the board of directors. Among other things he was responsible for managing international business. In addition, as partner and advisory board chairman of Hamburg Consult he was involved in the further development of methods for operational and traffic planning.

Dr. Knut Petersen has worked for all major public transport companies in Germany and Austria, advising them on strategic issues relating to restructuring operations, strategic and growth processes and M&A activities. He combines this wealth of experience with extensive expertise in the processes and structures of public transport enterprises. Together with his colleagues he is once again devoting himself entirely to this challenging project work for his clients.

Dr. Knut Petersen is married, and the enthusiastic father of three children. When not consulting, he pursues a variety of sports. He also enjoys spending time on the Balearic Islands, where he has come to value the people and their way of life, although “mañana” has yet to become part of his standard vocabulary.
